Tiendas Bara accelerates hard discount store openings in Mexico
Tiendas Bara, a subsidiary of FEMSA and part of the OXXO convenience and health division, has set plans to open close to one new store per day in 2026. The company finished 2025 with 636 hard discount stores. It opened a net 157 stores in the fiscal year and has started 2026 with the goal of opening close to one new store each day. Same-store sales growth in Q4-2025 was over 11% with topline sales growing 31%. Oxxo says that Tiendas Bara is their challenger brand to Tiendas 3B, a discounter that is now approaching 4,000 stores in Mexico.
