Spain leads European discounter penetration

Spanish discount grocers have increased household penetration by 3.6 percentage points since 2024 to 82.4%, more than double the 1.6-point average across six other major European markets, according to NIQ. Spain recorded the strongest growth, ahead of Italy at 2.9 points and the UK at 2.8 points. Germany declined 0.3 points but remained the most penetrated discount market, reaching 94.6% of households.
