Schwarz Group plans massive German data centre investment

German retail conglomerate Schwarz Group, owner of Lidl and Kaufland, plans to invest up to EUR5.6 billion by 2033 in a data centre in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The facility will reach 240MW capacity, supporting expansion of the group’s cloud and AI operations through Schwarz Digits. Schwarz said capacity could eventually rise to 1GW by 2045 as it develops a European alternative to US technology providers. (Reuters)
