Rewe continues trialling rural smart store formats

Rewe is testing a Nahkauf Box smart store concept in Hofheim to support local grocery supply in underserved rural areas. The unstaffed walk-in outlet offers around 700 daily essentials across 39m2, including fresh produce, dairy, frozen foods, dry goods and non-alcoholic drinks. Customers can shop 24/7, scanning items and paying cashlessly at self-checkout, with the format designed as a satellite for existing Nahkauf retailers. (Lebensmittel Zeitung)
