Heatwave prompts Carrefour purchasing standards adjustment
Carrefour has relaxed purchasing standards to support farmers affected by severe drought and heatwaves. It will accept smaller or visually imperfect fruit and vegetables, cut payment terms to 15 days for one month and revise purchase prices where production costs have risen. Carrefour will prioritise French produce and waive supply-related penalties. A new “drought clause” for beef suppliers allows higher animal feed costs to be reflected in purchase prices. (LSA)
