Amazon leads opposition to SF Affordable Groceries Act
San Francisco has withdrawn its proposed Affordable Groceries Act from the November ballot after opposition including from US ecommerce group Amazon. The measure would have taxed retailers holding leases on vacant grocery and pharmacy outlets, funded affordable food initiatives and offered incentives for new operators. Amazon sought an exemption for a Whole Foods location closed since 2023 and threatened to campaign against the proposal. (Supermarket News)
