Aldi accepts packaging responsibility for own brands

Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have reversed their position on the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, accepting the “producer” role for own-label packaging. Suppliers have been informed of the change, which follows similar moves by Lidl and Kaufland. Aldi had previously argued suppliers should assume the role, but EU Commission guidance has reinforced that retailers are responsible where packaging carries their own brands. (Lebensmittel Zeitung)
